The only thing Vy wanted more than to study in the United States was to work full time in another country after graduation. She was able to fulfill her dream after graduating from the University of South Carolina (UofSC) when she was hired at the Omerta Group in London, England.

Originally from Vietnam, Vy decided to attend UofSC upon learning about the world-renowned Darla Moore School of Business, famous for its top-ranked academic programs. When she started studying her freshman year at UofSC in the fall of 2016, Vy quickly bonded with her roommates from Indonesia and India and fell in love with learning about other cultures.

Over the next few years, Vy excelled in her academics, switching from her original major, management, to study finance her junior year. In her classes, she discovered her passion for analyzing data and working with numbers. This dedication to her coursework even led her to graduate in only three years.

During this time, she also participated in the Career Accelerator Program (CAP) for international students at UofSC. This exclusive service for students attending Shorelight partner universities is designed to help international students develop their professional skills, pursue internships, and launch their careers.

Through CAP, Vy learned what it would take to excel in a finance career and how to stand out from other job applicants at international companies. Inspired and driven, Vy sought out part-time employment at an on-campus dining hall, enhancing her interpersonal skills and improving her English. She also became a member of the Women in Business Council, a group established to help women develop professional skills.

In 2018, her love for experiencing international cultures led her to study abroad for a semester at Shanghai University in China. While there, she was able to earn university credit toward her degree and immerse herself in Chinese culture, and she learned even more about what life is like for people all over the globe.

Preparing for her early graduation, Vy started researching potential employment opportunities online in the fall of 2019, naturally looking at finance positions all over the world. She applied, interviewed, and was hired at the London office of The Omerta Group, an executive search firm that provides customized talent solutions for the financial industry. Vy immediately began working full time in her new hometown of London, eager to take on her next adventure in the diverse city.

In three-and-a-half years, Vy made the unique journey from Vietnam to London, studying in both South Carolina and Shanghai along the way, and has taken what she learned at the University of South Carolina with her as a leader in the workplace. Vy looks forward to a bright career in finance and leaving her mark on even more countries as she travels around the world (although she does miss living within walking distance to her favorite restaurant, IHOP).
